The bamboo is heat treated to carbonise the surface which makes it water resistance. Bamboo is compostable, it is also naturally antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal. The natural bamboo toothbrush handle has an ergonomic design crafted for easy grip while brushing.
In spite of individual beliefs that brushing with hard bristled toothbrush has a better cleansing action and plaque removal capability, dental hygienist very rarely recommend hard-bristled toothbrush due to its potential adverse effects – irrespective of proper brushing technique.
Bristle hardness is a major predisposing factors for gingival recession (receding gums) that causes irreversible loss of tooth structure. Hard bristled toothbrushes can damage the gums, promote bleeding and open the way for bacterial penetration, resulting in tooth decay and gum disease.
With modern technology, pure bamboo and other plant-based bristles in their pure form may prove counterproductive because they would rot in a matter of days, thereby generating unnecessary waste.
Likewise, if we replace our toothbrushes every three months as required by dentist, about 23 billion plastics toothbrushes would end up in the waste stream annually. Today’s viable option for a plastic-free brush is animal hair bristle. So we believe any alternative that reduces the total amount of waste is a step in the right direction.
Reducing your Environmental Footprint
Once you’re finished with your toothbrush, it is recommended to pull out the bristles from the bamboo handle using pliers before disposal. Then the biodegradable handle can be used for home or commercial composting while the bristles can be recycled with other plastics.
